What Mr Toad did wrong: Wind in the Willows drama, May 9th 2018

We took advantage of the lovely weather today and went outside to perform the altercation between Mr Toad and the police officer. Some of the Mr Toads were really very rude! Ava's performance was outstanding and won her an Oscar!

The Butterfly Lion!

Class 3 have been learning about the fantastic book by Michael Morpurgo - it's called The Butterfly Lion. Last week we made arguments. We wrote down extracts from the book to act out the best dramatic argument. The argument  involved  Bertie, the main character, and his cold father. They disagreed about keeping the white lion cub who Bertie greatly adores.

In the book Bertie lives in Africa and he has a white lion cub. After his dad killed the lioness he wanted to  keep him. The lion cub is surrounded by hyenas with no protection but luckily Bertie saves the white lion cub with great courage. However Bertie gets sent to boarding school in England so Bertie cannot keep the lion and the white lion is sent to a circus in France.

Here is some of the work we have done...

Why don't you read the book to find out more!

Play for Today

Class 3 have been writing plays in literacy.

As the children act out their plays two children review their performance and afterwards the rest of the class gives them some constructive criticism.

Some actors improvised when they were supposed to be following their scripts and some people needed to speak more loudly. However, we enjoyed all of the plays, especially those that were funny.
Most got top scores of 4 - 5!

The children said...
'Everybody was really fantastic - here is what we had: bus driver and rude traveller ,
The hare and The tortoise, the snooker football problem, the boy and the wizardy witch,
The argument, you naughty boy, the extremely naughty child, the scary dragon attack, the
Rude mood!☺️☺️😜 🎄🎭

A Day in the Life of a Victorian Servant

Today we heard about a normal day in the life of a Victorian servant. Their day started at 6am and ended at 11.30pm. It involved lots of cleaning, carrying, fetching, washing and tidying.

There were also rules for the servants:

We went to the hall to act out some of the chores.

We had people lighting fires...

Taking afternoon tea to the family upstairs...

More fire lighters...

Taking the scraps to the pigs...

Washing and drying the dishes...

Washing the dishes..

Serving food...

Preparing food...

Cleaning the grate...

Collecting logs, cleaning the grate and making the fire...

Making the fire...

Using the bellows...

Cleaning the floor...

We also thought about things children would do in the workhouse. We remembered ripping the ropes,
beating the carpets and sewing.

It was a really hard life. These days we have lots of gadgets to help us, thankfully.
