Athletics at Diss High School: 20th June

Another day of sport for Barn Owls! Today we went to Diss High School and the Sports Leaders there showed us 11 different athletics events and we all had a go.

First relay racing...

Then javelin...

After that 100m sprinting...

Then the triple jump. Here's the technique...

Once we knew what we were doing we had a go using the mat...

Then we tried shot put...

Then stepping...

Followed by hurdles...

Then more intense stepping...

Finally javelin...

Another hot day but great work Barn Owls!

Sports Day: 19th June

This year sports day was held on an extremely hot day but the children tried their hardest both in the morning events (see an example below) and in the afternoon when parents came to watch. It was fantastic to see the older children helping the younger pupils. See Kestrel's blog for more photos and information.

Red Team won this year - well done!

Cross Country Semi Finals, Fritton Lake Outdoor Centre

Today a group of Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 children travelled to Fritton Lake Outdoor Centre for the semi finals of the South Norfolk SSP Y3-6 Cross Country Competition.

Here they are...

We were in the Diss cluster.

With the expert help of Mr White, everyone warmed up and prepared for the run...

As you can see it was very wet.

However, that didn't stop us - we were game for anything!

We have photos of the runners below.

The oldest runners ran about 2 miles.

Everyone was absolutely brilliant despite the weather and the mud and tried their absolute best. There were about 60 competitors in each race so there was stiff competition, and only the first ten runners in each race were selected to go through to the finals. We  were all really pleased for Keane when he came in eighth. Well done everyone and thank you for a very enjoyable day!
