привет! Learning Russian in Norfolk: 18th July 2017

We had a brilliant day today when we were joined by interpreter Viktoria and 8 children from Chernobyl in Belarus. Viktoria answered questions about Russia and Belarus and helped us to understand the Russian alphabet and to speak and write in Russian. We found out that the national animal of Belarus is the bison and the national flower is the cornflower. We also learned that wolves can be found in the forests there.

We discovered that the Cyrillic alphabet is very different from our Latin alphabet and includes letters which look like mathematical symbols and numbers:

An afternoon of indoor and outdoor games and listening and writing followed and the children got on really well together, despite language differences. The children also discovered a mutual interest in the language of music.

The day ended with a photograph of everyone.

Recreating Bressingham Village: 13th July 2017

This week is local history week and in the morning we walked into Bressingham to find out what kinds of buildings are there. Where we walked most of the dwellings were bungalows but we also saw cottages, houses, the village shop, a chapel and the village hall. We kept a tally chart to record our findings.

In the afternoon Mrs Andrew showed us how to make 3D pictures of buildings using cardboard and we set out to create different buildings from the village. This will be continued next week.

Creative Packaging: 30th June 2017

We thought you might like to see the packaging the children created to house their sandwiches. As you can see below the boxes are really colourful and informative - lots of humour and inventiveness!

All of the boxes were completely unique!

Bug Hunting at School: July 10th 2017

After our success collecting insects and plants at Redgrave Fen Mrs Waller decided to let us loose on the school grounds to see what we could find. 

See if you can spot the beetle, snail, bee, earwig, wood lice, butterfly, grasshopper and a few others...

We also spotted lots of different plants and trees, including of course our very own oak tree!

The data we collected was used to make comparisons with the flora and fauna of the fens. We presented this in Carroll diagrams and bar charts in maths.
