What soil type do we have here? October 5th
Today we tried to find out what soil we gave here in the school's environs. We took some spades and went to investigate...
Harvest Festival: October 4th 2017
This year we celebrated harvest and the changing seasons at school because the church in Bressingham is having work done on the roof. Despite this, lots of parents and carers came to celebrate with us and the children performed poems and songs with their usual flair..

Barn Owls organise a Macmillan Coffee afternoon! Friday September 29th
Ms Paterson helped our class arrange a coffee afternoon for parents and carers to raise money for Macmillan Cancer. Lots of children baked cakes themselves, which was brilliant. We raised £350 - and, thanks to everyone's generosity, we still had lovely cakes to sell after school on Monday!

Getting Ready for Christmas
This afternoon we worked on our Christmas cards - although Christmas is a long way away we are being very organised so that our cards will be printed in time!
Science: What sort of rocks are these? Barn Owls are rock detectives for the afternoon! Thursday September 28th
We have been conducting experiments on rocks to find out more about them.
Ms Paterson led our investigation - we did a number of tests including...
...testing the hardness of a range of rocks to see which were the hardest and softest. We then tried to determine whether the rocks were sedimentary, igneous or metamorphic.
Sedimentary rocks are formed over millions of years when sediment is pressed together at the bottom of seas and rivers. Examples include sandstone, limestone and chalk. Some sedimentary rocks contain fossils.
Igneous rocks are formed when magma or lava from volcanoes cools. Examples include basalt and granite. Most igneous rock is very hard.
Metamorphic rock is formed when rocks are changed due to heat or pressure. Examples include slate and marble. Metamorphic rocks are also very hard but can be damaged by acid, for example acid rain on buildings.
We also did the acid test...
...using vinegar, to see which rocks reacted with the acid. As mentioned above, metamorphic rocks are the type likely to be affected.
We also used water to see whether any of the rocks were soluable.
Next week we will look at our results and see what conclusions we can draw from our experiments.
