Barn Owls go Italian - Panettone and Arcimboldo

Today was our first day back after the Christmas holiday - happy new year!

For the next couple of days we will be looking at Italy and Mrs Andrew kindly brought in some panettone for us to sample at break time. Delicious!


In the afternoon we learned about the work of Giuseppe Arcimboldo, born in 1527. We looked some paintings he produced which were portraits using seasonal fruit and vegetables. Learn more at

We also saw a modern recreation using photography:


We cut out photographs of fruit and vegetables to make our own portraits. Here are some examples...











We also had a go at making portraits using real vegetables, which, we discovered, was pretty difficult.
